In the Care of People Who Live This Path

Meet the Amrutham wellness team — the doctors, facilitators, therapists, and friends who hold the space at our Ayurvedic resort in Kovalam, each of them a practitioner of what they offer.

Meet the Amrutham Wellness Team

Amrutham is intentionally small — eight rooms, and a team you will come to know by name. We are not a large staff rotating through shifts; the Amrutham wellness team is a handful of people, drawn from medicine, yoga, and Ayurveda — and a few lives lived elsewhere — who have chosen to practise what we offer. Some of us hold degrees and decades of clinical experience; some hold a steadiness you only learn at the treatment table, or beside someone in silence.

What unites the wellness team at Amrutham is a way of being with you: unhurried, attentive, and honest. Whatever brings you here — a retreat, a wellness package, or a quiet stay — the Amrutham wellness team will meet you where you are. Below, meet the people who will look after your days.

Dr. Arun David — Resident Medical Officer

BAMS, MD (Ayurveda) · Master’s in Yoga Therapy · Plant & Herbal Sciences

Often the first person you meet at Amrutham, Dr. Arun David is our Resident Medical Officer — and the one who translates how you feel into a plan you can follow. He holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s in Ayurvedic Medicine (BAMS and MD in Ayurveda), alongside a Master’s in Yoga Therapy — a rare pairing that lets him read your constitution (Prakriti) and then prescribe not only therapies, but a way of moving, breathing, and eating through the day.

A devoted student of plant and herbal sciences, Arun is happiest tracing a remedy back to the leaf it came from. He brings that same curiosity to every consultation — patient, precise, and genuinely interested in the person in front of him.

Dr. C. B. Keshavamurthy — Principal Consultant, Preventive Cardiology & Longevity Science

MBBS · MD (General Medicine) · DM (Cardiology), Gold Medallist · 24+ years

Dr. C. B. Keshavamurthy brings the rigour of high-stakes cardiology to the gentler work of keeping you well. One of South India’s most experienced interventional cardiologists, he is Chief Consultant and Head of Interventional Cardiology at Manipal Hospital, Mysuru, with more than 24 years of practice — and over 25,000 coronary angiograms and 5,000 angioplasties behind him. His training reads as a map of Indian medicine: an MBBS from Bangalore Medical College, an MD in General Medicine from B. J. Medical College, Pune, and a Gold-Medal DM in Cardiology from Lokmanya Tilak Medical College, Mumbai.

At Amrutham, that expertise turns preventive. As our Principal Consultant for Preventive Cardiology and Longevity Science, he helps guests understand the long arc of their cardiovascular and metabolic health — the quiet markers that matter years before anything goes wrong — and how rest, diet, movement, and Ayurveda fit into a serious, evidence-based picture of living longer and living better.

A principal investigator on landmark international trials — among them ROCKET AF, REDUCE-IT, and CREDENCE — and a faculty member at major cardiology conferences worldwide, he keeps one foot firmly in contemporary science. It is exactly that balance — modern cardiology and a longevity mindset — that he offers here.

Sudhakar Jayaram (SJ) — Retreat Facilitator

Three decades building hospitals — then, from the other side of the bed, a different education entirely.

Across three decades in emerging-market healthcare, SJ built and ran some of its most demanding institutions, commissioning tertiary and quaternary hospitals from blueprint to disciplined enterprise across the United States, India, China, and Nepal. He holds a B.E. (Hons) in Chemical Engineering from NIT Jaipur and an MBA from FMS Delhi, sits on the boards of select hospitals, advises AI-diagnostics start-ups and impact funds, and is the author of Where Medicine Meets Money, an Amazon bestseller in medical ethics.

That is the part of the story that fits neatly on a slide. The part that shaped him most appears on no balance sheet. The executive who had spent a career optimising hospitals became a late-stage cancer patient inside one, with a prognosis of twelve months. From the other side of the bed, he learned what no operating role had taught him: how the mind behaves under real threat, how much suffering is manufactured by an untrained faculty of attention, and how little of what we accumulate actually steadies us when it counts.

In the years since, he has brought the same discipline to his inner life that he once brought to clinical and financial outcomes — a decade of study across cognitive neuroscience, behavioural psychology, quantum theory, and the non-dual traditions of Advaita Vedanta (Essential Non-Duality) and Buddhist practice, drawn less to belief than to what withstands scrutiny. As anchor facilitator of our Signature Silent Retreat, he brings no doctrine and asks for no faith — only a structured, evidence-based method for the clarity that cannot be outsourced, made for serious seekers ready to step off autopilot.

“Discipline eats talent for breakfast.” — the principle he lives by.

Veena R. S. — Wellness Coordinator

If your stay unfolds as one seamless whole — the right room, the right meal at the right moment, a therapy quietly rescheduled around how you actually feel that morning — it is usually Veena’s work behind it. As Wellness Coordinator, she is the thread that runs through your entire journey at Amrutham.

Veena holds the space between our doctors, our kitchen, and our therapists, so that your programme feels less like a series of appointments and more like being genuinely looked after. She tends to the practical foundations on which everything else rests — where you stay, how you are fed, how your days are paced — with sattvic meals tuned to your constitution and any dietary needs, and a gentle eye on your comfort from arrival to farewell. Much of her care you will never notice; you will only notice that you feel held.

Padmakumari — Senior Therapist

Padmakumari is among the most experienced hands at Amrutham. As a Senior Therapist, she carries years of practice in the classical Kerala therapies — the synchronised warm-oil massage (Abhyanga), the steady stream of medicated oil across the forehead (Shirodhara), and the cleansing treatments at the heart of Panchakarma (the five-fold Ayurvedic detoxification).

What guests remember is not technique but presence — a calm, grounded steadiness that makes the treatment table feel safe. She also helps guide and train our younger therapists, passing on the patience and precision these traditions ask for.

Divya K. — Wellness Coach & Counsellor

Divya joins your journey where the mind needs tending. A mental-health counsellor in practice since 2011, she works as our Wellness Coach and Counsellor, offering a confidential, judgement-free space to look honestly at whatever you are carrying.

Her approach is personal rather than formulaic: she helps you notice your emotional patterns, name the problem beneath the problem, recognise your own strengths, and take real steps toward a healthier way of living. Her guiding belief is simple — you are what you mind — and her quiet mission is to help people leave with a better outlook on whatever life brings their way.

Suresh Namboodiri — Principal Consultant, Vedic Astrology & Rituals

Drawing on a family lineage of astrology more than four centuries old, Suresh Namboodiri offers a contemplative, traditional counterpoint to the rest of our team. As our Principal Consultant for Vedic Astrology and Rituals, he reads birth charts and life patterns through authentic Jyotisha (Vedic astrology) to help guests find clarity and direction — in work, study, relationships, and the larger question of where life is heading.

His guidance extends to the spaces we live in. Through Vastu Shastra — the traditional science of harmonious dwelling — he advises on how a home or workplace can be ordered to support ease and well-being. And where difficult planetary periods weigh on a chart, he prescribes time-honoured remedies and rituals to soften the influence of malefic planetary effects (graha doshas). For those who wish, he offers personalised consultations and the quiet, steadying perspective that only centuries-old practice can give.

Hemy — Guest Relations

For many guests, Hemy is the warmth of Amrutham made personal. In Guest Relations, she is often the one who answers your first questions, welcomes you on arrival, and stays close throughout your stay — making sure you feel expected, looked after, and at home from the moment you walk in.

Rumi, Varsha & Eli — Business Development & Alliances

Rumi, Varsha, and Eli look outward on Amrutham’s behalf. Working in Business Development and Alliances, they build the partnerships and relationships that bring the right guests, teachers, and collaborators to our doorstep — and that carry the spirit of Amrutham to the wider world. Much of their work happens long before you arrive, in making the journey to Kovalam possible and seamless.

Mohandas — Yoga Shiromani & Holistic Wellness Expert

Yoga Shiromani · Kalaripayattu Practitioner · Holistic Wellness Expert

A native of Trivandrum, Mohandas embodies the union of modern physical science and ancient Vedic tradition. A Yoga Shiromani certified by the International Sivananda Yoga and Vedanta Centre, he brings a classical lineage to his teaching, with a rare gift for translating complex yogic ideas into practical, life-changing habits.

His range is wide: mindful asana practice and precise alignment; the traditional values of meditation, breathing techniques (Pranayama), and yoga philosophy; the body awareness of Kerala’s ancient martial art, Kalaripayattu; and the healing insight of Marma therapy and Ayurvedic principles. Guests and students alike describe him as a “knowledge bank” — flexible, hands-on, and at ease with everyone from first-timers to advanced practitioners.

He believes a true practice begins the moment you step off the mat. Under his guidance, you learn not only postures, but a disciplined, holistic way of living.
