Therapy Information
Our therapies are designed to purify, rejuvenate, and restore harmony to body, mind, and soul. We offer the following therapies at Amrutham
Abhyangam - Traditional Full-Body Herbal Oil Massage
A full-body massage therapy that uses warm herbal oils tailored to an individual's constitution (dosha) and health needs. The massage involves rhythmic, gentle strokes from head to toe, allowing the oils to penetrate deeply into the skin and tissues, promoting detoxification, improving circulation, and harmonizing physical and mental well-being.
Udwarthanam – Herbal powder massage
A full-body massage that uses medicated herbal powders, either dry or combined with oils, applied with vigorous, upward strokes against the direction of hair growth. This technique generates heat and friction, helping to break down excess body fat, improve circulation, promote lymphatic drainage, and stimulate detoxification. Udwarthanam is especially recommended for those seeking weight management, skin rejuvenation, and reduction of cellulite, and is particularly beneficial for balancing the Kapha dosha.
Kizhi - Herbal Poultice Therapy
- Podi Kizhi - medicated herbal powders tied in a cloth pouch (kizhi) to massage the body.
- Ela Kizhi - massaging the body with warm pouches filled with medicinal leaves, &
- Njavarakizhi - massaging the body with a warm bolus (pouch) of medicated rice pudding.
Sirodhara – Mind-calming therapies using medicated oils
A classical Ayurvedic therapy in which a steady stream of warm, medicated oil is gently poured onto the forehead, specifically on the ‘third eye’ area. This treatment deeply relaxes the nervous system, calms the mind, and promotes a state of tranquility. Sirodhara is especially valued for its ability to reduce stress, alleviate anxiety, improve sleep quality, relieve headaches, and help with emotional balance and mental clarity. It is recommended for those experiencing insomnia, fatigue, or high levels of mental stress
Ksheeradhara - Mind-calming therapies using medicated milk
Dashamoola ksheeradhaara - warm milk infused with the ten roots of 10 herbs is poured in a continuous stream over the forehead or body
Katee Vasthi – Back care therapy performed using heat and oil
A specialized Ayurvedic therapy for back care, targeting the lower back with the application of heat and medicated herbal oils. During treatment, a dough ring made from black gram flour is placed on the affected area to create a reservoir, which is then filled with warm, healing oils that are retained for a set period. The heat and therapeutic oils penetrate deeply into the tissues, helping to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, nourish muscles and nerves, improve flexibility, and balance Vata dosha, making this therapy effective for chronic lower back pain, sciatica, and muscular stiffness.
Panchakarma – Complete body detox and rejuvenation
Panchakarma is a holistic Ayurvedic detoxification and rejuvenation therapy that translates to "five actions" or "five treatments" in Sanskrit. It is designed to cleanse the body of accumulated toxins (ama), restore balance to the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha), and enhance overall well-being and the body's natural healing abilities.
The Five Main Procedures of Panchakarma:
The specific five procedures are customized to an individual's health needs and constitution, and typically include:
1. Vamana (Therapeutic Emesis)
Medically induced vomiting to eliminate excess Kapha dosha and toxins from the upper gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts.
2. Virechana (Purgation Therapy)
Medically induced purgation using herbal laxatives to cleanse excess Pitta dosha and toxins from the small intestine, liver, and lower gastrointestinal tract.
3. Basti (Medicated Enema Therapy)
Enemas using medicated oils or decoctions to cleanse and nourish the colon, which is considered the primary site of Vata dosha, and remove toxins from the large intestine.
4. Nasya (Nasal Administration)
Administration of herbal oils, powders, or juices into the nasal passages to clear the sinuses, improve mental clarity, and eliminate toxins from the head and neck region.
5. Raktamokshana (Bloodletting Therapy)
A procedure, less common today, used to cleanse the blood of impurities and balance the Pitta dosha in specific conditions.
